Year 3 Writing
Age: Year 3
Program Details
The aim of the Year 3 NAPLAN program is to help your child prepare for the writing paper of NAPLAN test. The group will develop skills, teach strategies and help students practice under test conditions. Completing these tasks within set timeframes can be challenging and your child will be supported to develop planning skills for writing tasks.
The main underlying capacities and areas addressed in this 10-week program include:
- Organised writing skills
- Planning skills
- Editing skills
Group Goals
- To plan grammatically correct, structurally sound and meaningful sentences
- To appropriately segment text into paragraphs when completing narrative, informative and persuasive writing.
- To independently plan and write a narrative, informative and persuasive text using age appropriate structure, language and punctuation.
- To be able to initiate a writing task in a time appropriate manner
- To demonstrate appropriate time management skills to plan and complete a written text in test conditions
- To develop editing skills for writing. Individual goals based on your child’s ability will be set at the beginning of the program.
Year 3 Reading and Language Conventions
Age: Year 3
Program Details
The aim of the Year 3 NAPLAN reading and language conventions program is to help your child prepare for literacy testing. The group will develop skills, teach strategies and help students practice under test conditions. The program will target literacy skills under the areas of reading and language conventions. Completing these tasks within set timeframes can be challenging and your child will be supported to develop problem solving skills for answering questions and strategies such as looking for key words when reading. Your child will be exposed to a variety of short texts, stories, simple reports and will be encouraged to make connections between directly stated information, text and pictures.
The main underlying capacities and areas addressed in this 10-week program include:
- Spelling skills
- Comprehension strategies
- Reading skills
Group Goals
- To be able to read frequently used one-syllable and two-syllable words with regular spelling patterns
- To read a text and look for key words in questions to locate answers efficiently.
- To identify common grammatical conventions such as the correct use of past and present tense, use of pronouns to replace nouns in sentences and use of punctuation.
- To develop an understanding of language conventions
- To demonstrate appropriate time management skills and appropriately answer questions in test conditions Individual goals based on your child’s ability will be set at the beginning of the program.
Year 5 Writing

Program Details
The aim of the Year 5 NAPLAN program is to help your child prepare for the literacy testing. The group will develop skills, teach strategies and help students practice under test conditions. The program will target literacy skills under the three main areas of reading, writing and language conventions. Completing these tasks within set timeframes can be challenging and your child will be supported to develop planning skills for writing tasks, problem solving skills for answering questions and strategies such as looking for key words when reading.
The main underlying capacities and areas addressed in this 10-week program include:
- Organised writing skills
- Planning skills
- Comprehension strategies
- Reading skills
Group Goals
- To read text and look for key words in questions to locate answers efficiently.
- To develop an understanding of language conventions.
- To independently plan and write a story and persuasive text using appropriate structure, language and punctuation
- To write fluently and with appropriate speed to complete writing tasks.
- To independently manage time appropriately to complete tasks within a set time frame.

Home Based Intervention
