High School Intervention and Provisions
Qualia offer comprehensive assessment and therapy programs for high school students experiencing concerns with handwriting speed and legibility.
Qualia can assist with preparation for examinations and provide alternative for handwriting. Where necessary, Qualia advocates for students applying for special provisions (formally Special Examination Provisions) to reduce disadvantage in an exam situation for the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.
Specific areas that Qualia may assist include:
- physical (bio-mechanical difficulties)
- intellectual
- sensory
- learning disabilities
Special Provisions in the Higher School Certificate and School Certificate are practical arrangements designed to help students who couldn’t otherwise make a fair attempt to show what they know in an examination situation. The provisions granted are solely determined by how the student’s exam performance is affected. Provisions may include use of a reader and/or writer, additional time or rest breaks.
A note to parents: if you are concerned about whether examination provisions apply for your child, you should contact the school year adviser or counsellor. The application form must be submitted by your child’s school as it requires specific information about the difficulties your child may experience in a classroom or examination situation. It is strongly advised that you are involved in the application process.
