A Super Hero Social Thinking Program
Age: Pre-School to Year 6 Students (Grouped according to age)
Help your child develop key strategies for navigating their social world through this superhero social thinking program. This fun, engaging and non-threatening approach helps children develop social vocabulary, understand expectations of social situations, increase their own awareness of social behaviours and develop independent strategies to combat difficult situations using Superflex and his team of Thinkables. The concept based on the ideas that we all have a superhero, Superflex, in our brains and he is constantly battling the Team of Unthinkables (a selection of unexpected behaviours) such as Rock Brain or Space Invader, who, may come and try to take over our brains. The students will learn to identify what members of the Team of Thinkables are relevant to them, and learn superflexible strategies to defeat the Unthinkables.
The main functional areas addressed in this 10-week program include:
- Social skills and participation within the classroom Social skills and participation when playing with friends
- Social skills for reading and giving cues (body language and non verbal communication)
- Attention, engagement and turn taking skills.
Individual goals will be tailored for each student after the first intervention session. These goals will be reviewed throughout the group program.
School and Pre-School Based Intervention
Qualia work with children in their everyday environments to enhance handwriting, creative writing, fine motor skills, coordination and gross motor skills, organisation, attention and concentration.
Home Based Intervention
Qualia offers occupational therapy sessions at your home, to enhance your child’s school based skills together with every day skills such as dressing, shoelaces and use of a knife and fork.
Clinic Based Intervention
Qualia work with infants, young children and teenagers in developing age appropriate skills and independence in the clinic located at 661 Darling Street, Rozelle.
